The Sd.Kfz. 250 half-track vehicle was widely used by German mechanized units during World War II. It was based on the technical basis of the Sd.Kfz.10 artillery tractor and was intended to serve as a flexible and reliable solution for the integration of infantry and armoured troop movements. It was armed with either one or two 7.92mm MG34 machine guns and could transport, with a high level of protection, a four-man infantry squad to the battlefield. Its operational reliability led to the development of many variants, one of which was the 250/3 Leichter Funkpanzerwagen (light armoured vehicle for radio communication), used as a nerve centre to mediate radio communication between forward units, artillery and air support. A notable version was also the "Greif", used by Erwin Rommel in North Africa as a fully forward command post that could be in close contact with frontline troops.
